FAQs

Lowe's Floral prides itself on stocking only the highest quality fresh flowers and plants as well as gift items available.  From time to time it may be necessary to make minor alterations to maintain the color scheme or feeling of the gift you have selected.  For example:  if you ordered a mixed bouquet and one flower type was unavailable, a similar shaped bloom in a similar shaped color would be selected to maintain the integrity of the design.  However, whole product substitution is not done without your permission.  Rest assured, if you ordered a premium blooming azalea plant and one wasn't available, Lowe's Floral's Customer Service Team would try to contact you by all available means to help you select an alternative product.  For "designer's choice" products, the highest quality item in the product category you select will be chosen for you.

Lowe's Floral is proud to offer the freshest flowers availble from the world-market.  Lowe's takes the time to put every single blossom it brings in through the same proven process of conditioning for maximum longevity.  Each stem is cleaned of foliage that would fall below the water line of an arrangement and promote harmful bacteria.  Each bloom is them fresh cut to ensure a clean, clear pathway for water and nutrients to flow up the stem.

It is dipped in a hydrating solution to push the maximum amount water and nutrients to the head of the flower and then stored in strict climate-control in a high-humidity, high air-flow cooler in sanitized containers filled with a professional floral holding solution.  When arranged, each blossom is placed in clean, clear water accurately dosed with flower food.

Our flowers are rigerously rotated so that each bouquet is designed for maximum freshness.  Any bloom past it's prime is donated to a local charity or disposed of ethically, in an earth friendly manner.

Fresh flowers can last in a home, office, or hospital environment for several days if cared for properly.  Lowe's Floral takes great pride in the care and handling the blossoms they recieve from the moment the arrive from our world-market sources until they stop at your door.  The best way to keep you cut flower bouquet in good shape is to follow the care instructions supplied on the care card included with your bouquet.  All fresh cut flowers need three things to last their longest:

1.  Fresh water daily.

2.  Constant tempterature.

3.  Flower food.

Always add fresh water daily to your floral bouquet.  Mix the included flower food powder as per the package directions and add it as needed to your flowers.  If the water in your vase turns cloudy, drain it immediately and add fresh, clean water to the vase.  Recut the flowers and place them back in the vase.  For arrangements in floral foam, add water and flower food powder mixture daily.

For maximum vase life, do not place your flowers on top of a heat source like a televison, heater, refrigerator, stove or oven.  Keep away from direct sunlight and do not expose to extreme drafts like cold air returns or leaky windows.  If you need to transport fresh flowers or live plants at temperatures below freezing, cover them fully with a plastic bag and move them from a heated environment to a heated car/truck and immediately to a heated environment.  Fresh flowers and floral gift plants cannot tollerate freezing temperatures for any period of time.

The simple answer is no.  Use the professional flower food powder packet included with your bouqet.  Mix it like any other chemical or drug; as per the package directions.  Home remedies like sugar, aspirin and copper nails/pennies added the water in your fresh arranement will only marginally extend the life of your bouquet.  The same is true of things like clear sugar soda and bleach.  These DIY solutions only take care of part of your bouquets needs.  Cut flowers need the following three things to life thier longest:

1. Food (natural sugars)

2. Acid (natural acids like aceatic or citric)

3. Biocide (bacteria killer)

These three itmes need to be in the right balance; too little or too much of any one chemical can actually shorten the life of fresh flowers.  It is always better to use the professional flower food included with your bouquet.  Lowe's Floral also carries medium sized tub of flower food powder for home arrangers and gardeners who want to bring summer beauty indoors.  Inquire in our flowershop for more information.

"Order Gather" is a floral industry term for fake florists.  There are florists who exist entirely online or in the yellow pages.  They don't have flowers, they don't have a cooler, all they have is a room full of people answering phones at desks.  They never offer a local address or telephone number.  Many resell your personal information to other telemarketers and soliciters.

To protect yourself:

  • Always ask for an itemized bill from your florist.  Most fake florists don't want you to see thier service fees in writing.
  • Futher, always ask for a local phone number and address.  If they simply say they "service" the town you are wanting flowers in, they are fake!
  • Avoid any fake florist who answer the phone simply "Flower Shop, may I help you?"  This normally means the company you called is operating under so many different names that they use a generic hoping you won't catch the deception.

These fake florists remain in business by taking your order information and charging exhorbitant rates to relay it to a real florist for you.  Sometimes these "service" fees can be in excess of .00.

So if you spent 0.00 on a funeral arrangment through one of these "order gatherers" they would deduct their service fee of .  They would also deduct the sales tax (in North Dakota that's )  This leaves the real local florist making your arrangement with to work with.  The real forist has to subract for delivery say .  This leaves you with a arrangement.  That's a full 1/3 less that what you were expecting.

Although these fake florists are a very small number of business they account for more than 80% of the complaints lodged annually with the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau about "florists."

For more information there is an excellent website called FloristsDetectives.com.  They have an extensive list of fake florists and their outragous service charges plus helpful infomration on what to do if you've been burned by an "order gatherer."

Drop shipping is the practice of shipping cut flowers direct to the reciepient.  There are many online business that drop ship and claim to offer "field fresh flowers" to your door.  This is great in theory, but the only way to get florist quality blooms custom arranged is to call a real florist.

Drop shipping doesn't work for several reasons:

  • The major freight carriers: UPS, FedEx etc. don't run heated or cooled vehicles on local routes.  The weather in Minot, ND is would freeze fresh flowers solid  almost 6 monts of the year and scorch them another 4 months of the year.  Especially if they were left at your door outside.
  • Drop ship flowers aren't arrnaged.  They come loose in a box with a vase separately.  Since they are unarranged.  That means they don't make a very nice get well gift to the hospital, nor do they say "you have my sympathies" when sent to a funeral home.
  • Claims of "far freshness" or "grower direct" are exagerated at best.  All commercial fresh flowers in the US go the same process to get into the US, further your local florist goes through a rigorous quality control process including the use of flower food soluations to maximize the life of the bloom in your home.

The best way to get the freshest possible flowers that are artfully arranged is to trust Lowe's Floral.  We have  been your professional florist for over 30 years and your trusted greenhouse and garden center for overy 80.
